I came across this pretty cool vid for a documentary on the punk rock scene in the 1990’s. I still feel weird saying that, because it seem like yesterday. Anyways, the vid takes a look at the Offspring specifically, but if you were into music around that time, you knew that Green Day’s Dookie, Rancid’s ..Out Come the Wolves, Bad Religion’s Stranger Than Fiction, NOFX’s Punk in Drublic all came out around the same time.
Green Day and Offspring were the mainstream darlings, but it had a positive spin-off on a ton of bands. I bought SMASH when it came out and saw the mail order catalog that popped out of the cd case as I opened it. That introduced me to Bad Religion, The Vandals, NOFX, and the rest of the Epitaph Catalog. That later introduced me to the Fat Wreck Chords catalog and so on.
Punk wasn’t expect to break but you never know what will really hit and what positive ripple effect that will have.
KEEP HUSTLING!

ive been a punk since 84,seen ALOT of changes and bands in L.A. scene since then….just wanted to tell the person that posted that clip from the 94 epitaph documentary that featured offspring as the band that first hit the radio on kroq, and sent the label to fame, anyways,i just wanted to say that i have the full documentary that clip came from on vhs…lol…and that it features pennywise, nofx, and rancid just as much as offspring, that clip was only a teeny part of the ilm.it was more about how the label came to be.smash is just what put epitaph on the map.and to correct them, bad religion suffer was the album just put out at that time, not stranger than fiction….

Smash is such a great CD. All of these bands were the some of the first I got into. Growing up in DC, i was just so fascinated by punk.
