1994: The Year Punk Broke…Again

I came across this pretty cool vid for a documentary on the punk rock scene in the 1990′s. I still feel weird saying that, because it seem like yesterday. Anyways, the vid takes a look at the Offspring specifically, but if you were into music around that time, you knew that Green Day’s Dookie, Rancid’s ..Out Come the Wolves, Bad Religion’s Stranger Than Fiction, NOFX’s Punk in Drublic all came out around the same time.
Green Day and Offspring were the mainstream darlings, but it had a positive spin-off on a ton of bands. I bought SMASH when it came out and saw the mail order catalog that popped out of the cd case as I opened it. That introduced me to Bad Religion, The Vandals, NOFX, and the rest of the Epitaph Catalog. That later introduced me to the Fat Wreck Chords catalog and so on.
Punk wasn’t expect to break but you never know what will really hit and what positive ripple effect that will have.

Smash is such a great CD. All of these bands were the some of the first I got into. Growing up in DC, i was just so fascinated by punk.
