Music Merch: Going Beyond The T-Shirt

[ 3 ] October 26, 2008 |

Thursday Nintento Wii
I was doing some research on a couple bands I want to interview for our upcoming book, and came across this ad for Ding, and wanted to let you guys know about it.

Ever seen people with a cool graphic sticker on their laptop or ipod? Well that’s what Ding is all about. People can now show off their favorite band on their laptop, ipod, cell phone, guitar hero guitar, PS3, Nintendo Wii, and more.

It’s a cool new extension of music merchandise and should be taken more seriously. As of now, I don’t think Ding allows just any band to upload their stuff, but I’m sure they will soon enough. Maybe there’s another site that does it. I’ll keep on the lookout.

On a side note, while taking a look at the bands already participating, it was no surprise that the punk/emo/hardcore scene was in full effect. This scene is all about taking advantage of new tools to promote and market themselves.

They know how to hustle. You should start too.

+44 uses this, and i think it’s quite a genious idea. I’ve wanted to shell out for more obscure merch over shirts since I bought my first CD.
