Myspace has teamed up with MTV to make money off of your pirated video content.
…..Yay?
Well at least Viacom and News Corp won’t be trying to control the content on the internet. In fact some people believe this is the future of video content and this could be the future of the Internet.
So how do they do it?
Well, you know that video of your favorite band playing an MTV show? Through a clever program called Auditude they are able to find out what type of show you are watching and then lay adds over top of your video content.
Voila! Instant advertising!
Not only are you happy that you can upload every piece of trash MTV puts out, but MTV is happy because they are making money off of laying down ads on your clip of the Hills…
But the real treasure that Auditude offers is the detailed breakdown of where, why, when, and who is uploading, clicking, streaming, etc., their videos. With that information in their hands Viacom and News Corp are able to target market their products with such precision that has not been seen on the internet before.
MEANING THEY CAN MAKE MORE MONEY.
We’ll see how this plays out, but it just occurred to me that IF people start watching more videos from GOOD MUSICIANS and are watching programs that have REAL ACTING, it could change the way MTV and FOX decide on which bands to promote and which TV shows to keep vs. cancel.
Who knows that 4th season of Arrested Development may happen after all.

You could only hope for that IF. Although i’d like for nothing more in the entire world than more Arrested Development. Fuck world hunger and peace, I’d trade it all for the Bluths.
Sir, unfortunately that is a massive and deafening ‘if’ in your second last paragraph!
