Abbey Road the Best Selling Vinyl of 2008

[ 0 ] January 8, 2009 |

Well it’s not, but in case you haven’t heard, vinyl is making a comeback.

In the U.S,  1.88 million vinyl records were sold in 2008. That’s a 89% increase from 2007. Not too shabby. Most of the sales were from independent stores making it even cooler.

In Rainbows was number 1 (25,800) which makes sense, but the number 2 spot I didn’t expect. The Beatles’ Abbey Road, an album that turns 40 this year, was the number 2 best selling vinyl album (16500) in 2008.

That got me thinking again on the idea of being timeless. Something you go back to time and time again. Something you grow old with.

The Beatles left an imprint on music and the world that will last for years to come.  It’s so nuts that an album 40 years old still seems relevant and fresh. The Beatles have so many great songs, it’s hard to pick your favorite, or even a Top 5.

It’s so rare to find an artist today where you love the majority of their work. It’s rare to find an artist who’ll speak the truth. It’s rare to find an artist who’ll you’ll stick with. It’s rare to find an artist who makes every song count.  The Beatles are rare.

That’s why Abbey Road was the 2nd best selling vinyl record of 2008.

There’s gotta be artists out there striving to make something timeless and great.   Music that people will connect to. Music that people will come back to consistently. Music that lasts.

I salute your efforts if you’re out there.

Abbey Road was really the number 2 seller on vinyl last year? Wow, I wouldn’t have expected it would be in the top 40 let alone number 2.

There will never be another band that even comes close to having the influence and staying power of the Beatles. Never! They covered almost too much ground to leave much for anyone else to say.

God damn I love the beatles, which is why you’re so correct seeing as how i got into them ages after they existed.
