The Junos (Canada’s Grammys) were handed out the other day. I caught a bit of the show and after my soul was saddened because of Nickelbacks continued reign as the biggest band ever, my spirits were lifted to see The Lost Fingers nominated for a Juno.
The Lost Fingers are a French Canadian band who have carved out an interesting career. They are booked all over the world and have developed a healthy fanbase due to a few spectacular covers and an engaging live show. What struck me was the classic way they are creating their career. Through paying attention to what their fans want and generally ignoring the mainstream media they have become so big that they cannot be ignored.
Some may call what The Lost Fingers do a shtick. But that doesn’t matter. They have a fanbase, they have a career. They are unique and memorable. They do not need mainstream approval because it is unnecessary. Through the internet, particularly YouTube, they have expanded and found their fanbase. Proving again that in today’s world everyone can have an audience.
