I’m there early and end up talking to the girl at the counter whose sister I know. This girl is a pretty good looking girl who looks like she’d be into indie rock or something mellow. Ask her what music she’s into and she’ll enthusiastically respond, “Crust and Grindcore.”
If you’ve been to a crust/grindcore show, you’ll notice a lot of scratchy font band patches, tight jeans, knox inspired hair, spiked bracelets, machine gun drums, indecipherable growls and screams, and circle pits.
I could not picture this girl at one of these shows.
That got me thinking about how we assume things without really knowing anything. It’s like a sales guy who won’t talk to a guy who looks grubby, even though the guy might have $5000 to drop on a TV.
I know the coffee shop grindcore girl example is rare, but it’s worth keeping your eyes and mind open to possibilities that may exist outside your frame of reference.
You may be used to playing bar shows cause you’re all of age and that’s what you’ve always done, but maybe the underage kids are the ones who’ll really get your music.[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMZy3S-xQFo&feature=related]
