If you haven’t heard, Billy Bob Thornton was on the radio program Q and things went… awry. The host Jian Gomeshi, was interviewing the band, whilst Billy Bob was being difficult. Billy Bob preferred to be referred to as a pure musician, rather then an award winning actor, director, screen writer, etc. Jian briefly mentioned that Billy Bob was successful in the film world to give the listeners some context. But Billy didn’t like this.[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJWS6qyy7bw]
The video is filled with awkward hilarity, but in any case Jian via Jeff, provided us with a great point – bands don’t just blow up like Billy Bob’s did, without that kind of (film) career trajectory behind it. All bands need to pay their dues. In today’s world with so many bands vying for the listeners attention, an award winning film career will help. If Mr. Thornton didn’t want to be associated with his other career then he should change his name, not appear in any pictures, and start playing in clubs with less people in the audience then in his band. All bands need that paying your dues incubation period, even Billy Bob’s.
