When are you a success?
What does success as an artist actually mean??
Is it signing a record deal? Is it being artistically satisfied with your creative output? Is it selling a million songs on Itunes? Is it all those things? When will you be happy??
Everyone’s answer will be different, but the important thing is to actually define it. If success means having a full time day job that you love while you play and record music without the need to financially gain from it, that’s cool. If it means being able to sell out venues all across the world and make your whole life revolve around music, then that’s cool too.
I know I need to keep reminding myself and redefining what success means to me. It’s all about being conscious and aware of what you really want and then doing what’s necessary to make it happen.

yes! I actually just blogged about this exact thing on Wednesday! My take on it is in the link below. Basically, “making it” has no meaning at all! It’s unattainable, unachievable, and no one really knows what it means. It’s like someone saying “i want to save people” instead of saying something concrete like “i want to become a doctor.”
Define your goal! “making it” is not a real goal!

Totally agree Ian. You’ve gotta define it for yourself because that’s the only person you have to answer to.
When my music income exceeds my gear expenditures I will consider my musical endeavors successful.
Agreed sir. Agreed.
