If you’re between 13-53 you’re probably on Facebook.
As an artist, Facebook (along with Twitter and MySpace) is pretty essential online. While MySpace and Twitter have offered personal url‘s since the beginning, Facebook has not. So in an attempt to keep the social network crown Facebook is offering personalized url’s. So what does that mean for you? That means that you can now get www.Facebook.com/YOUR_NAME.
Whooptie doo Basil, what does it all mean?
First off you’re instantly going to have another powerful tool for Google to find your ass. This is especially important for bands who are fighting over a name with another band. Get your Facebook account and Google now thinks you’re the real deal. Bringing you, in theory, more traffic.
That legitimacy over your band name is really important. It’s a pain to fight with another band over a name. You could change yours, but you’ve put time and effort into that name. That name is your identity and online is the only place that that identity matters.
I hear you lawyer types claiming “official registration” and other things, but all that matters at the end of the day is this: When I type your name into Google, do I find YOU FIRST?
If the answer is Yes, then keep doing what your doing. If the answer is No, then “Starting on Friday, June 12th, at 10:01pm, you’ll be able to choose a username for your Facebook account.”
