Tribal Codes and Music Niches

Just watched a documentary on the metal scene about how it’s evolved and endured over the years. It was much too apparent that Metalheads are a tribe. They dress the same, have the same haircuts, go to the same shows, hang out with other metal-heads. A concert is a gathering of like minded people who know the code and are bonded by the music.
Come to think of it, a lot of music has it’s own tribal codes. Emo shows have a bunch of skinny dudes wearing too small shirts, girl jeans, and swooping hair. Indie rock kids wear american apparel, plaid, 80′s sunglasses, and headbands. Hip hop kids have their own style too. Of course people mingle in different circles, but the music of choice reflects who they are.
I think Rob Zombie said it pretty good, , “Wierd kids playing music for the other wierd kids, the outcasts”.
If you know who you are and what you want to say, you’ll attract similar people who relate.
