This is why I love the internet. Rage Against The Machine (Rage) were crowned the winners of the annual Christmas Number One Single in the UK. That’s a big deal.
Typically sterile pop bands, produced by the likes of Simon Cowell claim the Christmas Number One, but this year a grass roots campaign aimed to make the opposite true.
And what’s the opposite of sterile pop? Rage Against The Machine. Fuck you, i won’t do what ya told me, yells Zach de la Rocha the front man for a band who always had so much more substance than style. They were real, always. Even their album of covers was bangin. That sort of track record breeds loyalty in fans. So when a crazy idea starts, like getting Rage the Christmas Number One, every fan will do it.
Rage didn’t chart nearly as high with Killing in the Name when it was originally released in 1992. There was no lighting fast way to spread the word. But one Facebook campaign and the power of Rage Against The Machines loyal fans RATM achieved the unbelievable. Merry Christmas world. Anything is possible.

It’s the thought and the movement that counts. The future won’t be so myopic.

What crap!
Both acts (RATM and Simon Cowell’s) are under Sony. So either way the money goes to the same guys. Merry Christmas!
