You read that title right. Billboard the top of the top chart magazine/organization is ovah. . .Well not quite but soon it seems.
Kyle over at Hypebot has a great piece on the Ultimate Chart. Essentially it promises to show the true facts behind a artists popularity that include “Integrating data from categories including Song and Album Sales, Radio Airplay, Online Audio and Video Plays, and Fans/Friends/Followers.” UC, as I shall now call it, claims to be the first and only chart that looks at all of the ways in which music is popular, online and off.
I don’t need to tell you that this type of chart is long overdue, although I don’t know how many people gave a care about Billboard after the 2003. Either way UC will be another great tool for artits to gauge if what they are doing is working in building thier audience.
Who know if UC will be the Billboard killer it purports to be. It just launched so they’ll still be working out some kinks but I can offer a few suggestions: The chart should have some sort of playlist streaming radio player, something where I could listen browse the charts with options to buy. Also the details could be expanded to include much more than chart performance. Artist bio, relevant links, buy options would be welcomed by everyone I think.
But in any case Ultimate Chart is here ready to tear to pieces the old guard. . .and yet the top 100 looks awfully familiar. Perhaps this too will change soon enough.
