This blog is not here to pump one artist up, but I don’t care, it’s our blog and I want you know about Aloe Blacc.
More importantly, I want you know to why I’m anticipating his new record. It’s been 4 years since his last record came out. In today’s world, that’s an eternity for a new artist to put out a new record. Who will remember you?
I hadn’t heard anything at all in the last few years, but every few months I would check up to see what was going on. In the last couple months, I got wind of a new album. I was completely stoked. I love that feeling you get when you’re really excited for a record to come out or after hearing a new song you just want to press repeat to. Over and over.
I digress.
I asked myself why I was so stoked to hear new material. Aloe’s music is all over the map. From old time soul music to Latin music inspired hip-hop tunes, Aloe puts a fresh twist on it all.
Sure, the music is great, but what was so special about Aloe to make me want to anticipate a record 4 years in the making? After listening to the tunes that grabbed me the most, it was obvious. Aloe expresses a genuine positivity that seems to weave its way through all his musical undertakings (his upcoming albums is called Good Things, just in case your curious). It’s done in a way that just connects. To me at least.
As an aspiring musician/song-writer, I think it’s good to self-analyze and put yourself in the shoes of the fan on a regular basis. What do you connect to and why?
On an ending note, if any representative from Stones Throw wants to send me an advance Vinyl copy of Aloe Blacc’s Good Things, I’m game. Send me an email to [email protected]
