As Kyle from Hypebot recently reported Bandcamp is no longer offering unlimited free downloads. Users who signed up ages ago now have 500 free downloads and new users will be limited to 200.
Any addition downloads will be a whopping nine bucks for 300, $20 for 1000 downloads, and $75 for 5000. Ridiculous I know…. well maybe not so bad. Bandcamp is still my favourite way to release music online. So sleek an simple and easy to do. Plus their analytics are better than most. Bandcamp also has a variety of promo codes and such that can be sold in real life to your fans.
So although it’s kinda a bummer, with product this good I know people will still be with Bandcamp. In fact I’ve been noticing bigger and bigger musicians releasing their music through Bandcamp. Sufjan Stevens just released a huge EP with them and will be releasing his next LP on Bandcamp as well.
So I’ll be sticking around and I hope you do too.

It’s actually:
300 downloads for $9 USD (3¢ each)
1000 downloads for $20 USD (2¢ each)
5000 downloads for $75 USD (1.5¢ each)
which, as you say, is still a very reasonable price. I see lots of people complaining, but if you are able to get 500 people to download something from you but you’re not able to make $20 off of that… you’re doing it wrong.
Thanks Issac.
