The American Music Awards (yes, yes, I know they’re irrelevant!) have taken a very modern approach to their selections this year.
Typically the AMAs are determined by a poll of music buyers, and as a result is representative of public opinion. But this year the awards show decided to use the worlds worst named but most liked music charting system, THE ULTIMATE CHAAAARRRRRTTT.
American Music Awards® nominees were selected from BigChampagne’s Ultimate Chart. The Ultimate Chart is a ranked list of the most popular artists and songs based on a weighted combination of music sales, radio and TV broadcast, internet streaming and video viewing, and incorporating additional online metrics, including activity on social networks. –Big Champagne Blog
While I dislike the name, I do like the information that Ultimate Chart accesses. Billboard clearly isn’t cutting it. You know it, I know it, and the American Music Awards know it. . . but that’s about all the American Music Awards know because this awards show is absolutely useless. I mean it was started to combat the Grammys when they moved networks and that makes it essentially a shitty-er Grammys, and the Grammys are weak to begin with son!
So kudos Big Champagne.
