One of my favourite websites alive today is The Hipster Runoff.
A lol filled parody of modern youth culture, lovingly referred to as “alt” by Carles, the enigmatic writer of HRO. The website often writes about music, skewering and making fun of todays crop of alt artitsts.
On one hand articles in the HRO can be basic and banal but on the other hand they can bring to light some interesting news. Like Taco Bell and their sponsorship (of sort) for new touring bands, Wavves and Best Coast amongst others :
Every touring band can relate to eating on the road and Taco Bell has become essential to keep artists rocking while on tour. Taco Bell’s late-night menu offers a variety of items to conquer any band member’s appetite. Carles can see this corporate hand shake for what it is. A burrito per diem of sorts. The record label part may be a stretch, but the Label of Taco Bell does get to associate itself with buzz bands and youth culture, making money off of both.
I’m sure that this won’t be stopping anytime soon. Nor should it. But its note worthy and could be something you could use.
