Have you seen the new My_____ ?
Are we calling it that?
The main thing you’ll notice browsing around is that Myspace is trying to frame your experience by placing a transparent-y tab running the length of the top and occasionally bottom of your screen. It looks different but functions much the same as classic profile editor tab.
You can still upload music, photos, and other stuff that makes MySpace prove it still has a heartbeat, faint though it is (more features here).
But My____________________has still not addressed what I think is their fundamental flaw. THERE IS TOO MUCH SHIT!
Too many ads, users, musicians, spam bots, musician spambots, friends, too much everything. It saturates the brain and makes you want to LEAVE. For social media to work you must make people STAY! That is why Myspace will lose even if it has “curated content.”
If My____ is pressing reset on their function in the social media world, then can’t they press reset on their userbase as well? Start from scratch with new users who are REAL and then gain their TRUST to develop MySpace into something with more life.
But of course now that I write that idea down I see how ludicrous it is. MySpace is too old and entrenched in their NEWS CORP ways to ever try something as ballsy and necessary as starting anew with their users first.
They can change their logo and their focus, but it still smells like OldSpace to me. I hope I’m wrong, Grandpa has done a lot for a lot of musicians.
