Lefsetz was raving about the Pomplamoose/Hyundai commercial.
This is a band who did everything themselves and this commercial was something Lefsetz cheered on. It’s not selling out because they did everything themselves. It’s like a reward for their hard work. They deserve it.
He made it sound like it was as glamorous as “getting signed” 10 years ago.
Pomplamoose got attention from music industry bloggers such as ourselves after word got out that they were making a full time income just from making YouTube Videos from their music. They had put in a ton of work to make them and it showed. The editing was tight, interesting enough to keep watching, and funny all at the same time. The songs were well recorded, well put together, and hella catchy.
Plus, there’s a cute girl in the duo which always helps. Sorry… it’s true.
What’s interesting is the angle being employed to continue their momentum. Since news broke of their success, they have people rallying around them. Everyone was stoked that an independent was seeing success just from their DIY ethic and no label support. This recent commercial is another victory to portray them as heroes for the independent musician, which they are.
It’s an angle they are taking maybe by accident, but it’s the angle nonetheless. When more and more bands start seeing success on their own, it’s not a story anymore. Just a thought to chew on when marketing your own music.
What makes you “special” and worth talking about?
