A quick synopsis of what happened in my head when faced with the task of asking for donations:
Oh geez sun, oh geez. The days are getting shorter and shorter. Winter Solstice come save us from this freezer hell. SXSW is coming up so soon and look at that giant red blotch on the side of The New Rockstar Philosophy’s face?! AAAWW.
Gross and sad. That Total for our “Chip’in” fan funded project is sad and gross. 4 goddamn % are you F*@king kidding me? 4% will not get us to Austin. We need every red cent. Awww sheeeeeet.
NOW TO THE ACTUAL PEP TALK:
Heya Champ,
Funding for your fan-funded big project not going so well? Well don’t worry, there’s always time to get your plan on track.
Think about what the essence of your plan is.
Is is to record a new album? Perhaps you haven’t shown the world what you’re planning to do eloquently enough? You could put up some demos for your fans and show them what you’re planing. That would get some more people interested.
Or why not make a video like Marissa Nadler did. It really got to the essence of what she wanted to do. That, or I was pulled in by her huge sweater puppies. Either way I connected to her and understood what she was about.
Maybe to get more donations you simply need to tell more people. Have you tapped your mailing list? Your Facebook fan page? Do you have a media list? Send out a press release and let people know.
Finally not to pull a Bieber on yall again, but JBiebes and his manager SBraun did utilize some of the basics of net promotion to great success. YouTube, YouTube, YouTube, Twitter, and YouTube.
So fear not fan fundraiser you can still make your goals. Or at the very least, hustle and learn a few new things.
Oh by the way please donate to our SXSW Trip if you can. Smiley face.
