Chris Blackwell, Island Records founder, spoke to NPR about his 50 years with his label.
The label that brought reggae, Bob Marley, and U2 to the world. Not a bad record as at least one of those things is in every college kid’s playlist.
It’s interesting to see that even Blackwell thinks major labels are out of date and unnecessary.
..it’s changed completely. For the artist, they are now really able, providing they’re patient, to retain control and ownership of their work, their copyrights, their masters.
They can sell their music; they can market themselves on the Web. Takes a long time, because it’s sort of going bit by bit, but they can promote their concerts, and they can gather e-mail addresses or Facebook pages … and grow like that.
[They can] have a very successful career and own their own masters. They don’t need to give that up to a record label, which happened in the old days. –More Here

Here is a story
About am an named neon
There was really nothing special
For all that new him
Then came 12 men no camera
A mob squad car
To call men in bars
Different then then
The brady bunch
Mrss 91.1 %
When there ‘e’ were ‘none’
Neon said there is no christ
Why should all men
Stop and come
Once a non manger man
Was standing in his
Room at home with no gun
Was the guitor on
Then was 00 __’ ‘ and
They don’t known
Why it all happened
Do you know Marley did also fall
But he was not crouching for a catch
Just the usual stand of ovation
If not the hen why do they
need to have so much not to have fun.
See your projection and take refuge.
And the last of the prophet of modern one of us Bob Marley
No guess
No series
No description
No idea of Zion
No place to stand like MK Gandhi
No Porridge told to old black men
No fire
No wood
No redemption
No song
No was he Black?
Judah
As the talk of the Lion of Judah increases
While friends wait not for the winter
Listen to the music and dance
Remember also past black friends like Jimi and The Blue Flames
Even as he moved West and had
Some people may be happy to have
When the Trench -Town music continues
Remember the trench coats
Go West
One second before it may have been Hendrix
So if the Belly full and people are hungry
Think West on the Islands
In the Caribbean, Not outside
No woman no cry
Was not a one night stand
So the music can go on again
One counts on an angry man
One can still see and feel the frown
An angry man can be a hungry man……

I was with Bob Marley in spirit maybe personally in 1990 during a brother’s engagement though I got very sick. The only thing that got me well was records of Bob Marley who I feel kin too since. I wish my wife Gopi or Kavita will know. Maybe he was kin.. some way. I used to sing don’t worry be happy literally to my mom when I was 5-6 in India and it made it to a great song like that. Chris did a good thing by signing Bob Marley!
