You’ve heard of the Long Tail right?
The very basic concept is that there is a market for almost anything. Some things are a huge hit and other things don’t sell very well at all.
As an artist, if you transfer the concept to your creative output over time, you’ll notice some songs/albums/tours/tshirts do better than others. You’ll also notice that potential fans have more and more chances to discover you, the more material you put out. The more YouTube vids you have, the more songs you release, the more blogs you write, the more tweets you post, the more you tour, the more chances people have to become a fan.
If you start thinking that everything you put out is a touch point for a potential fan, it helps you realize that everything matters. You don’t have to take it all so seriously and become overly analytical of all you do, but your entire creative output becomes more than just the music.
You could make your entire existence a work of art.
