Trent Reznor is the type of musician that will always have my attention. Especially when he’s talking about the music industry. His ideas are big, bold, and usually successful.
Travis Smiley had a chance to interview Trent about the creation of The Social Network. Luckily, Travis and Trent got into deeper issues of art, fear, and creativity too. Of note to musicians is that Reznor said when he stopped drinking heavily he got rid of the fear that was holding him back from creating new music.
This all comes at an opportune time as in the last few days there has been internet chatter on why musicians are so often depressed. Hearing one of the music industrie’s leading creators impart the wisdom that self-medication didn’t work for him should remind those facing similar situations that self-medication is only a stop gap and not an end in itself.
The interview is worth the 10 minute watch. Take a break from work and check it out.
