You may have missed the most important part of Odd Future‘s (soon to be legendary) Jimmy Fallon performance.
It happened near the very beginning, way before the duo’s schizophrenic rap performance.
Normally when an artist plays Fallon, Jimmy will hold up the artists record. This time Jimmy held up a giant QR code pointing to MC Tyler, The Creator’s much-hyped single Yonkers.
You see Odd Future doesn’t have an official record out…yet. But the group does have an insane online presence. Their Tumblr, YouTube, and Twitter, are constantly active and they’ve got a truly grass roots movment behind them. They’ve been releasing everything for free spreading the word since the band’s inception, but still no big official record.
But that is about to change. Just this week it was announced that Tyler signed a one record deal with XL Recordings to put out Odd Future’s debut record Goblin – due out in April.
Therefore the idea of the QR code is a little bit of genius. The code takes readers to their website that contains the heart of this group. Music, video, and twitter, and everything else. Very slick.
The beauty part of this lesson is that you can do this too: Create your own QR code here. It’ll be spit out as a png file and you can plaster that bad boy where ever you see fit. So easy.
Make sure your QR code points to somewhere alive and active. Engage your fans as much as you can and the QR code is perfect.

I love this! QR codes are popping up everywhere as a new means of getting people connected to the artist. I’m about to experiment with putting them on fliers for shows. Thanks for the post!
