George Harrison was a big fan of Monty Python. He enjoyed them so much that he financed the classic film Life of Brian. It’s a cool bit of rock ‘n’ roll mythology.
Whether Coldplay knew that or not is unclear but clearly they’ve decided to get into the film business by financing a forthcoming flick called Ashes.
The film is directed by Mat Whitecross, a school friend of the British band, who has worked with the band on several of their music videos. Ashes is billed as a film-noir, and stars veteran British actor Ray Winstone as a man suffering from Alzheimers, as well as Jim Sturgess and Lesley Manville. (Vancouver Sun)
In addition Coldplay will be scoring the film which I’m sure will help sell/hype their forthcoming record which should be dropping later in 2011.
Films are a great way to get your music to audiences that may not normally check your stuff out. But you don’t have to work with Scorsese to grab a film score.
Is there a university/college/film school program in your town? All those kids need music for their films. It may take some leg work but the opportunities are there. Go out and get them.
