I’m still blurry. Was it all a dream? Did the countless bands, panels, foursquare checkins, instagram photos, cards exchanged, beers drunk, pizzas demolished, tacos destroyed, great friends met, all really happen?
The New Rockstar Philosophy attended both SXSW Interactive and Music, and for the first time SXSWi was bigger than music…. at least by registered attendees. The difference between the two parts of the festival are obvious but best summed up with a tweet by the brilliant Ben Sisario:
SXSWi: Order, optimism, money.
SXSW Music: Chaos, shrugs, small stakes
Don’t get me wrong, there is a good deal of commonality between the two parts of the festival, mainly the fact that there is so much music technology going on. People are inspired to find their own fix on the current music climate and after spending hours in very smart panels I can tell you that the future is still very much unwritten.
We will chew the fat about those issues soon, but I just wanted to throw out a big thank you to all of our new friends in Austin. Especially our terrific host Amanda. She showed us the true heart of Austin; Good music, good friends, and good food.
