Often, when certain muso friends of mine start wanking off about music theory, modes, and the like, my eyes glaze over faster than hearing about musicians complain about piracy.

Thankfully for the rest of us there are a multitude of helpful internet videos that can illuminate music theory. One of them is the BBC’s old, yet still awesome, video series called How Music Works.

The first part is on melody and uses all the studio tricks to get the point across about the soul of music.
