The Stowaways are a Canadian band using the power of wind and untraditional touring methods for their 2011 summer tour. This band is taking on the idea of a sustainable tour full score.
As per their CBC webpage: “Tired of long roads, vehicle breakdowns, and the price of gas the stowaways are doing things a little more sustainably this summer. They are battening the hatches and taking to the high seas on a Wind Powered Tour of the West Coast. With a few sailboats, a crew of good friends, and a whole lot of stringed instruments, they are going to be dropping anchor, and playing tunes in the Gulf Islands and Southern Vancouver Island from June to August 2011. We are currently touring to support and promote this ‘sustainable music’ tour. “
Sure these guys can’t tour extensively on a sail boat but they can tour the coast. Not only is this a great environmentally friendly way of touring, it’s got PR written all over it. The fact that they are touring in this fashion will get them attention they wouldn’t get otherwise.
These guys are a bunch blue-grass bohemians and the fact they are taking sail boats as a way to tour is so perfect. In fact it really fits well with their sound and image.
Hopefully this idea inspires you to think differently.

If there’s one thing I know about boats it’s that they are damned expensive. Whatever you save on gas is going to be spent tenfold on owning, mooring and maintaining a boat.
If you already own a boat then I guess you can say it was cheap to put it to this one extra use, but again if you can afford to own, moore and maintain a boat then gas prices probably aren’t that much of a concern for you anyway.
Good call Sam.
I have no idea on their boat acquisition details. All I know is they got my attention with this idea.
