Sometimes I cannot believe my good luck. For the past 7 years I have been privy to watch a band go from a tiny local open stage to playing at Bonnaroo and vying for the cover of the Rolling Stone. This band of course is The Sheepdogs.
The Sheepdogs are from my small city of Saskatoon. They make the sort of music where you instantly become nostalgic to party. They’ve been churning out their impressive classic rock songs for 3 hard toured albums and each time they’ve gotten bigger, and bigger.
Their success is no fluke. Although they’ve become more popular than ever before because of a their recent participation in the Rolling Stone contest, The Sheepdogs have always put in their hours and earned each fan. Their formula for success is as classic as their music:
- Record a good album
- Get in the van and tour as much as you can
- Come home and record an even better album
- Get in the van and tour even longer
- Come home and record an even better album
- tour as long as possible..etc.
At this year’s SXSW we had a chance to talk to the band and their management who all indicated that because of their persistent touring they’ve been able to make a lot of good friends and big fans. Everyone was rooting for their success and the Rolling Stone contest came up at an opportune time.
It’s also worth nothing that the band has always been a great live act, but within the last few years they’ve stepped up their image to another level. They’ve got great photos, videos, and they look like their music, all trademarks of a band thats ready for bigger things.
Voting for the Rolling Stone contest ends July 1st, so if you haven’t voted yet, help make history and put The Sheepdogs on the cover. Vote here.

Oh my god. THANK YOU VOYNO.
I’ve never heard of them, and was just browsing your blog (which I frequently do), and wow. I was singing along after the first “who do you belong to.” They got my vote!
Awesome Amy, that’s good to hear.
