Recognizing and Expanding Your Creative Patterns
If you’ve been writing songs or playing music for a long time, you’ve most likely developed a pattern/routine you fall into when it comes to creativity. Some of you may get your best work out at 3:00 in the morning, some of you might wait for inspiration before creating, some of you may just play for hours and work for something to come, etc…
What if you consciously tried a new behavior just to see what the outcome is? No expectations.
We can get so set in our ways that we ignore the possibilities for creativity to flow just by putting ourselves into an unfamiliar situation. Maybe you’re so used to creating on your own that working with another person could open a new gateway for creative output. The way that person thinks may be so different that it expands your consciousness to what’s possible.
Attempting to express creativity in a medium you have no skills in may allow your brain to let go of any technical programming you’ve developed with your core musical instrument. Having no technical background or skills in the new medium may seem like a restriction, but it also sets you free to create without rules.
Put yourself into a new situation and see what happens.
