Marketing Lessons From Jay-Z and Kanye’s Pop-Up Watch The Throne Store

[ 0 ] August 14, 2011 |

You may heard the hype for the recently released “Watch The Throne” album from heavy-weights Jay-Z and Kanye.

What you may have not heard is how they set-up a pop-up store to sell the album.

Why this has marketing magic sprinkled all over it:

1. It’s fresh.

Pop-up stores have been around for some time, but who’s done one to sell a new album??   This turns heads.

2. It’s limited.

The very nature of a pop-up store is non-permanence.  There’s a sense of urgency for fans in NY to check this out before it disappears.

3.  It’s newsworthy.

The freshness factor means people want to write/tweet/facebook status about it.

Sure, you don’t have the cash or clout to set-up a pop-up store for your album, but there’s gotta be something you can do on the cheap to create awareness that is fresh and attention-worthy.  Get creative.
