As a new artist or even an established artist, but especially for a new artist, the impact of one song has incredible importance. I understand that in order to truly be great, most of your songs have to be awesome, but it always starts with one song. That one song that really grabs people and gets them to not only pay attention but want to hear it again and then tell their friends about it.
Some songs that come to mind from now established artists:
Tracy Chapman-Fast Car
Kanye West- Jesus Walks
Coldplay – Yellow
John Mayer – No Such Thing
All these tunes helped explode these artists. They all had built up some base from previous songs, but that one song turned them into superstars. Album sales and sold out tours followed the lead of the big tune. One highly inspired, perfectly (or randomly) timed release can do wonders if it’s promoted and given the opportunity to be heard.
It’s obviously easier said than done, but you can’t underestimate the power of one song. You’ve heard it time and time again, but it’s always worth reminding. Everything boils down to the song. It has to be special and it has to ignite people’s emotions. That’s all a song really is. It’s emotion/mood expressed in sound and words (doesn’t even have to have words). If done well, it comes off as magic.

New Rockstar Philosophy version II is on its way… stay tuned..
