There is something about a tune when a certain line uncovers a truth that relates to you on a very real deep level. It’s as if its recognized all your masks and false fronts. You’ve been discovered.

At first it’s uncomfortable. You tense up or fidget and try not to let it bother you, but it’s got you and you know it. Then you keep listening to see what else this song has to say about you. You then realize the song understands you. It gets you more than your parents, or even you closest friends perhaps. You suddenly feel like a weight has been lifted. You aren’t on your own as you may have thought. This song has gone beyond a hooky melody, sunk into your bones, created a bond that has incredible meaning for you, and possibly altered your life.

That is what a great song can do. it has such an impact on the listener that it lays the foundation for a life long fan. It’s too strong to easily forget like most top 40 hits. However, it’s not easy to do because in order to have impact, you have to dig into yourself and reveal your truth-ugly as it might be.

Hard as hell, but incredibly powerful.
