Why don’t more musicians think like Jazz players?
Much of the genre of Jazz is of covers, or interpretations, it’s not unheard of, for a group to be a cover band their entire lifespan. They’re spinning classic songs in new ways, creating new fans from those songs, but establishing their own identity from the solid source material.
What you need to do is find an amazing song and throw a new interpretation on it. Like this band Jazz Against The Machine. I stumbled upon them via Reddit and have been digging all their stuff. You can do it too! Just pick a song you love, digest it, and pull out a new version. Easier said than done, I agree, but if you’re in between releases, have writers block, or haven’t put out new music for a while, this could be a great idea.
