There’s so many lessons that can be gleaned from hip hop. Like this classic nugget: Beefs are good for your career.
I’m not talking an actual Biggie vs Tupac death-style beef (although it is good for record sales). I’m talking about a small beef. Like the one Common and Drake are involved in. Something about Serena Williams, but frankly I don’t give a care. The point is that people love a good fight, so bloggers/any press will be more willing to write about you. Both Common and Drake have music to sell, the more people talking about them will equal more sales.
Hip hop has always been into beefs but in rock for whatever reason there are few beefs. Maybe rockers are too nice?…doubtful. Oasis and Blur enjoyed a fine beef in the late 90s.
If you wanna try this you could contact another band and plan it out like Brian Jonestown vs Dandy Warhols, or you could just let your gums flap. Either way beefs are fun to follow as fans and as long as it stays just in the press then it could be good for your career.
