How Do You Find Music Blogs That Will Talk About Your Music?

[ 1 ] January 14, 2012 |
Every other day one of my musician friends asks me how they can find appropriate blogs for their music. I tell them that finding music blogs isn’t that difficult, this is how I do it:
  1. Go to a music blog aggregator like Hypem.com or Elbo.ws
  2. In the search field of the main page, enter a band that you sound like, or that you’ve covered, or relates to you somehow.
  3. Click on the resulting blogs.
  4. Find their contact info and start making a list of all of the blogs that you dig that could dig you. – Remember to keep track.

Also, spamming Pitchfork writers might be less effective than going after a smaller up and coming blog. How can you tell if a music blog is on the rise? Ask yourself these questions: Is the content current, relevant, and consistent? If you’ve answered yes to all 3 then that’s a pretty good sign.

If you have any other ideas for finding music blogs let us know.
