Remember back in August when our friends The Sheepdogs were on the cover of The Rolling Stone? Well it’s been a flurry of activity for the dogs since then. The boys have toured with Kings Of Leon, recorded with The Black Keys, are playing Coachella, Sasquatch, and have now been nominated for a number of Junos (A Canadian Grammy)!
As a close friend watching The Sheepdogs play for years, it’s interesting to see how the world has latched on to them. They’ve been doing the same music for a while, but only since the involvement of the Major Labels are The Sheepdogs starting to get larger recognition for their sound.
To me this is a clear sign of the power of Major Labels. For all the talk of the end of an era, the Major Labels still have a lot of cash, expertise, and relationships that get doors open. Major Labels can get you seen and heard. Of course there are many ways up the mountain but with their recent success’ The Sheepdogs once again prove the power of the Major Labels. Congratulations Sheepdogs!

What about large indies like Merge (Hello, Arcade Fire album of the year Grammy), Sup Pop, Matador, etc? Are you saying they are not worthy or useful? This post is kind of pointless.
No dude. I’m just saying that The Sheepdogs have kicked it into high gear with Atlantic.
IF that’s what you want then the Major Labels are great. . . Of course large indies have a ton of power now but do you remember this http://www.newrockstarphilosophy.com/2011/02/who-tha-fuck-are-arcade-fire-indie-is-still-indie/ ? Many people still don’t know who Arcade Fire are.
My point is that Atlantic will be able to make The Sheepdogs incredibly popular and well known because they have all of that experience and relationships that goes with being on a major.
Get it?

Is it the Major Label clout or a talented manager?
