Rarely do I become this excited about a new set of tools for musician. Cash Music is a nonprofit Portland based organization that sounds very interesting. You see Cash Music is set to be a new competitor to services like TopSpin but the main difference is Cash Music is free…
“CASH Music builds open source digital tools for musicians and labels. Our mission is to help educate and empower artists and their fans to foster a more viable and sustainable future for music…..What WordPress did for bloggers, we’re doing for musicians. We’re building a free and open platform that’s available to all artists, designed in partnership with the artists and labels who are members of our organization.”
Say waaaaah? Those are some bold statements Son, but CASH Music isn’t just talking, they’re providing musicians with some slick looking, and slick acting applications. These applications integrate with Amazon, PayPal, Twitter, MailChimp and more. Also this is designed for musicians, so no programming needed (Yes!).
Plus CASH Music has been endorsed by a lot of awesome musicians. Just to name a few: Brendan Benson, Calexico, Jonathan Coulton, HEALTH, Iron & Wine, Ted Leo, Amanda Palmer, Xiu Xiu, Zola Jesus, Fat Cat Records, Kill Rock Stars.
Currently CASH Music is holding a Kickstarter project which you can donate here, and get a load of sweet swag. Check it out and see if CASH Music can work for your band.

Ooo, I look forward to trying this out. Just from looking at your article, it’s hard for me to see what their underlying business model is. “Free” services are usually the front end that lead to paid services.
I’d be very interested in a follow-up article about how they monetize this business (beyond Kickstarter of course.)
Good call Chris, I’ll let ya know when I have more info.
