One of our favourite bands is Selton. The Brazilian, Spanish, Italian band are YouTube masters and they’ve recently released a video (Check it out below) they made with zero dollars but a whole lotta love that has a lot of stuff all bands can use for their own music. I asked Daniel to explain a little bit about the video and how they’re strategy behind it.
What was the inspiration?
We had no money, but we had our tourist photo camera and a new song to release.
How did the video come together?
We send a message to our fans inviting them to come dance on our video. We used mailing list, facebook and twitter. We set a date and place and we were very surprised by how many people came. We record them free dancing the whole day and them we took a week to edit. We did all by ourselves using our photo camera and adobe premier.
How did you release it?
We did three “20 seconds” teasers before releasing the video. The whole thing brought lots of attention to our release concert where we projected the video and played a Live PA with the Djs that remixed our song.
These type of fan videos are not only good because they’re relatively cheap to produce but the more fans you include, the more your fans will share the video amongst their own networks. Each fan will post the video, they can be tagged in it (if you upload it directly to Facebook), and the amount of good will that’s build between the fan and your band is huge. So copy what Selton has done for your own band, it’s a very good idea.
