Being in a musical project isn’t easy because your music relationships takes 2 types of momentum. Not only do you have to navigate the personal stuff (internal momentum) but you also have to display, produce, release stuff to your fans (external momentum). You have to have both to grow and thrive.
Without external momentum fans forget about you and move on to something new. Without internal momentum you’re band doesn’t function, you’re not jazzed on your project and it all dries up. Check out some examples of both below
Internal Momentum:
- Writing new songs
- Playing satisfying jams
- Positive band relationships
- New possibilities and plans
External Momentum:
- New shows/tours
- New material – video/music/merch
- Reviews/Press
So if you’re having a band problem, think about how internal and external momentum are affecting the situation and what you can do to kickstart either or both.
